Hi I am 27 weeks pregnant. Can anyone tell me which position is the best position to sleep during these days? I heard that sleeping on left is the best one, but its uncomfortable for me to sleep on the same position throughout the night.. Can I change my position to my right side? Sleeping on my right side for few minutes is good or bad??
I switch from left to right, to half on my back. Just don’t sleep on your stomach or fully on your back and you’ll be fine.

i’m 21 weeks pregnant and i know i’m not supposed to lay on my back. i go to bed at night on my side and always wake up on my back. my back is paying the price too, and i’m also having trouble getting up off my back (kinda like a turtle thats been turned over). i quit sleeping in the bed and have been sleeping on the couch, and i go to sleep in a reclined position but still wake up on my back. i have a maternity pillow, and have tried adding extra pillows around me, but i guess i throw them off at night. also, when i lay on my side… i cannot hardly stand to lay on my left side like your supposed to do, it really hurts, but i can lay on my right side with hardly any trouble.. anyone experience that? and how can i get to where i sleep on my side instead of my back?
I don’t think it necessarily will hurt you, but talk to your doctor. Side is definitely preferable. I’m at 16 weeks and my hips start to ache from laying on my sides, so I occasionally wake up on my back. Eventually, it will start to cause you discomfort to be on your back and then you really need to find a comfortable way to lay on your sides.

i m 19 weeks pregnant,my docter told me to sleep on my left hand side & on all the sites also everyone says sleep on left only since baby can breathe easily in that position..since it began i have been sleeping on my left when normaly i always slept on my right.last nite i was very tired & i wasn’t getting any sleep becz of sleeping on my left,my whole left side was hurting,i turned on my right side thinking will do it only for 5 minutes, next thing i knew i was asleep & it was morning.now since morning i have not felt any movement from the baby which i felt occasionaly throughout the day.god forbid but could i have really harmed the baby by sleeping on my right?i m going to sleep in complete attention from now on,did all of u sleep on ur left side for 9 months too?
Yes, sleeping on your left side is best, but it has nothing to do with the baby breathing. The baby is surrounded by Amniotic Fluid, not air, it doesn’t breath until birth. They recommend laying on your left side because this puts the LEAST amount of pressure on major blood vessels, laying on your back or right side can restrict the blood flow to the uterus more than laying on your left side. Personally I did this with my first pregnancy, I am now on my 4th and have learned that ANY Position that enables you to sleep more than 20 minutes at a time, is the position you should be sleeping in LOL!

Hi all. My appendix ruptured when I was 32 wks pregnant. My scar is almost vertical and about 5 inches long. Thankfully we’re both ok now but I still have severe muscle cramp at the scar area and just above it that comes in waves. It almost feels like a bad stitch. I have tried some light exercises like walking but I have to stop after about 2 miles, before I could do 6-8 miles most evenings easily. Even now if I sleep in certain positions I can’t stand upright when I wake for about 5 mins. I even find it hard to push a shopping trolley and find myself leaning on it more the further I get around the store. Has this happened to anyone else? Is this normal? Do you know how long it will last? Any suggestions on gentle abdominal exercises to strengthen the damaged muscles? Without exercise I’m finding it very hard to shift the baby weight and I am starting to feel very self conscious and feel very unattractive.
Hey!! What an awful thing to happen, especially when you are pregnant! Glad to hear your both ok though. Have you talked to your doctor about this pain you’ve been experiencing? They might need to do another check up just to make sure everything has healed correctly and that the muscles around that area aren’t still healing.
If they give you the all clear then you could talk to a physiotherapist about good exercises to help remove the baby weight but not cause you too much pain. They would have a better idea about particular muscle groups, how they work and what you should do if you’ve had an injury or operation. If you shop around you should find some that won’t cost you an arm and a leg, some may be on a medical scheme in which a government agency covers all or most of the costs associated with seeing them. You would probably only need to see them a couple of times. One just as a consultation and something to help you get started, and another just to check up and make sure the muscles there aren’t being over strained. I hope you feel better soon. Good luck!!

On you’re back you’re restricting air flow to the baby because of the veins on your legs and the baby would better to be able to do that in that specific position. With that said, that position isn’t really needed until 2nd tri towards 3rd tri, becasue in 1st trimester the babe is just really too small at that point to cause that type of symptom. From my personal experience, didn’t have to sleep on my back by 3rd tri but by then, it wasn’t about what the book said before the need of comfort!

I am 21 weeks pregnant, and something extremely weird keeps happening, there is a very hard lump that raises when I am laying on my back, it usually happens after I change position when I sleep on my left or right side, I told the Dr about it and he said that it could cause I suffer from constipation, but lately I’ve been normal and the lump came back yesterday for the 4th time during my pregnancy. My Ob ultrasound showed that everything is normal with the baby, but it still scares me, this lumps feels like the baby head and I can feel it more on my left lower side, close to my belly, please share with me if you have experience somethign similar or if this is normal, I am very worry. Thanks a lot
well I am willing to bet that it is the baby that you are feeling. It happens to me all the time especially when I am resting on my back, when I roll to my side the "lump" moves to another area!
Good luck

i’m 33 weeks pregnant and have this pain in my pelvic region, sometimes it is less sometimes it is more but it is a constant pain, it makes it difficult to get comfortable in any position especially while sleeping as i cant sleep on my back. can anyone tell me what might be going on?
advice is much appreciated.
also the baby is already in the birthing postion could this have something to do with it?
Sounds like the baby is dropping, and you’ll probably go into labor before 40 wks. It’s just pressure from the baby, I know it’s uncomfortable but I would try not to worry unless you start to have contractions.
P.S. I delivered my dd at 35 wks and she was perfectly healthy and did not spend any time in the NICU

I’m 32 weeks pregnant and for some reason, my pregnancy is sensitive. I have a low lying placenta. My placenta in my 4D ultrasound is located at the left posterolateral area with edge of 5cm from the internal OS (Grade 2 maturity) beside of my baby’s head close to my cervix. We’ll they said that sleeping on the left side is recommended by the Doctors and i’m trying to sleep on that position but i’m not very comfortable, it seems like i’m running out of oxygen and i feel like my belly is very heavy, and my vagina hurts when i change position to right from left. I ‘m more comfortable sleeping on my right or on my back. Now, i’m wondering why i cant sleep on the left side..is my placenta doing it? Is it ok if i sleep on the positions i’m comfortable with?
Try sleeping on your left side with a pillow between your legs, and a pillow sort of holding your belly. I was pretty uncomfortable until I tried these things too.

I’m 5 months pregnant.
For the last 3 nights I have had strong pain on right lower side when sleeping…or rather it is so bad I can’t sleep. No position is comfortable.
It hurts to laugh, cough, sneeze.
I can’t seem to digest any food except for plain rice and plain soup. Any other food causes extreme pain.
Severly bloated and constipated, can’t go #2
I can hardly move without severe pain and feeling faint.
This is a real drag… I have lots to do in preperation for christmas…and I just don’t seem to be able to do anything without severe pain and needing to sit down after a couple of minutes.
Has anyone felt this way? Is this normal?
When i first started to read this i thought it could just be round ligament pain and the uterus stretching but as i read on its sounds just to much i think you need to call your midwife as soon as possible if its affecting you this much hun xx

I’m 37 weeks 5 days pregnant and I keep waking up during the night on my back or waking up in the morning on my back. Is it really that bad for the baby?? It seems to be the only position that I can sleep and that I end up sleeping!
I’ve tried sleeping on my side but my hips and pelvis are so sore, that it’s difficult.
Any advice?
I actually spoke to my doctor about this because I also couldn’t sleep on my sides because of my hips. He informed it was perfectly safe. If it wasn’t safe to sleep on your back then they wouldn’t have you lay on your back during exams and you wouldn’t be allowed to be in labor for hours on end laying on your back in bed.. He also said that the risk of crushing the artery in your back was slim and that you would wake up gasping before it hurt you or the baby. If you are worried you can ask your doctor but my doctor has confirmed it’s perfectly safe. I also sleep on my back every night and I have a bigger baby and I’ve never had any problems, other than having to get up to pee every hour.
