did anyone lay on their back during pregnancy?
I’ve heard it’s not wise to sleep on your back during pregnancy but it’s the only way i can ease my backache.
Why exactly is it dangerous, and what position did you choose to relieve backache?
I’m 23 weeks.
Oh I hear ya. I have the same problem and Im 31 weeks preg. I bought 2 body pillows that seems to do the trick, i put one behind my back for support and one between my legs because of hip pain. It is not recommended to sleep on your back because you put pressure on the vein that supplies oxygen to the baby, I was told to sleep on the left side as much as possible I also put a lot of pillows behind my back kind of in a sitting position when I cant sleep on my side and it helps.

Sometimes i lay on my back to watch TV, but that’s only for a little while.
I don’t know why its dangerous - but i think i heard that it’s very uncomfortable and that your uterus pushes back on your back and causes back pain. But i’m unsure of that… just google it. Or at your next dr’s appt, ask.
To relieve my backache i lay on my sides with my knees slightly bent and sometimes with a pillow between my legs helps too.
I’m 18 wks pregnant.
Good Luck
Take care.

It is not dangerous for the baby but it will be dangerous for you later on. The only reason why is because the baby’s weight will began to press on your lungs as you lay on your back making it harder to breathe and you could not give yourself and baby enough oxygen. Don’t worry you will feel this and you will not be comfortable enough to sleep on your back at that point. SO just like sleeping on your stomach, enjoy it while it last. If you get your comfort this way for now, it is fine.
To relieve your backache try getting a body pillow or pregnancy pillow and lay on your side. These pillows will support your belly and relieve you back as you rest. They were great for me! Good luck and Congrats

It can limit the blood supply to the baby due to a main artery being compressed so it is definatly a good idea to avoid this. Of course sometimes it is out of our control ( I have woken up to find I am sleeping on my back before). I go to sleep on my side though with pillows between my legs to help ease the pain in my achy hips. What I would suggest you could do is to prop pillows under half of your back so it is like you are lying on your back only you are tilted to the side. Just avoid lying flat on your back for long periods of time

It isn’t dangerous. Soon you will not be able to sleep on your back. The baby will grow and push up on your lungs, making it almost impossible to breathe if you lay on your back. Right now you are not big enough to feel this, but I can guarantee it will happen.
When you are bigger it is recommended that you lay on your left side, while laying down. There is a rich blood supply that runs down your right side, when this is restricted it cuts down on the blood supply to your uterus. When you lay on your left side it allows this blood supply to flow freely and gives the baby superior oxygen and nutrition.
Good Luck, I hope your pregnancy goes well and you are blessed with a happy healthy baby.

the Aortic artery- the main artery that leaves your heart and supplies blood to your lower body runs down the center of your abdomen before splitting off to run down each leg. when you are pregnant the weight of the uterus presses down against this artery and can obstruct it causing light handedness, and in some cases fainting if you don’t move.
at 23 weeks the baby’s is probably not heavy enough yet to cause a problem. later in pregnancy you really need to limit your time flat. doing it for a few Minuit’s is no big deal, and if you wake during the night and find yourself flat don’t worry, your body woke you up to tell you to roll over.
there will come a point where all you can do to be comfortable is lay on your side with a pillow between your legs.

I have never heard of lying on your back being bad for pregnancy, but that doesn’t mean i’m right. I slept on my back the whole time through my pregnancy and gave birth on my back. See, thats why i don’t understand why its bad, they make you give birth on your back so why not sleep? Anyway congratulations on your little bundle of joy when he/she comes out!

I get very uncomfortable whenever I sleep on my back so I am known to sleep on my sides but when I watch tv(sometimes for hours) I lay on my back and so far everything is fine. They say that the reason they want you to sleep on your side is because it gives the placenta more of a comfortable space and dosent cut off oxygen from the baby.I am 26 wks. CONGRATS

ya its true that pregnant girls should avoid sleeping on their back.it has two main reasons. first it puts pressure on ur spine and leads to back ache and secondly it hampers the proper oxygen supply to the child.
sleep on ur sides and its best if you sleep on ur left side
use pillows for Support

H Hun, I layed on my back until 35 weeks! I tried as often as I could to lay on my side, but always found my self on my back. After that, I used to sit up surrounded by pillows in bed. I would highly recommend getting a body pillow to help you sleep, I used to put mine in between my knees and in fron t of my chest and lay on it. Laying on your back for too long at the later stage of pregnancy can lay on one of your main arteries and decrease oxygen to the baby. But your body will let you know when it’s too late. I found sitting up, either in bed surrounded by pillows, or on the recline couch was the best way to relieve my aching.
Good luck!
